What Do I Know So Far?

Her name is Naiya
His name is Phyro

Phyro is a Fire Breather, and Naiya is an Ice.

Now, hundreds of years ago on World B, a diety called Saens (temporary) created a race that humans today call the Breathers. To these Breathers, he gave the power to live forever as wandering souls. They wandered dimensions, taking the forms of other beings that already resided there. These 'souls' were reborn at the time of their deaths, so long as another was around to take the job as an 'incubator' if you will. They were an asexual race.

A war between the Breather's began. It was more of a cold war, seeing as they were a particularly neutral race. Warfare was unheard of with them. Peace was the only thing they knew. But because of differences in the control of elements given to them, they split into two tribes. Though they chose to stick together as one race on each world, it did not mean that they were able to coexist right next to eachother on that world.

On a world called Netiena, something went terribly wrong - at least, to the Breathers. Due to the genetics of the life-forms they had chosen to imitate, two Breathers underwent a mutation causing them to be a little less than asexual. Hormones that were expelled from their human bodies as a result of their normal magicks (these keeping them 'asexual') suddenly appeared in this form. They were the first to have this happen to them - the first also, to try and hide it. Their names? Phyro and Naiya.

By a chance meeting, attractions were terrifyingly strong between them. Afraid, they didn't know what to do other than hide it. Of course, pretty extreme things probably happened during their secret meetings - but let's NOT get into that. They had to keep these secret though. It was not acceptable to socialize with your enemies. And what they felt for eachother was unheard of and obviously difference was not accepted. Nobody could know about this huge difference. Already there were many things about the two that their own tribes could see was different, and they were shunned for them.

But both tribes found out. The Elders from each tribe gathered and discussed what should be done, because it simply could not be allowed. Something was horribly wrong with the two. Something had to be done of course! So what would they do? Speak to their god.

Saens was a very easily persuaded god. This was his first race, you see, and he loved to please rather than be an almighty powerful god who needed to be pleased. With this being said, he wished for the two tribes to be peaceful and get along finally. Thinking that this would bring the tribes together again, he agreed to help the tribes punish them for their apparently unacceptable differences.

He allowed them to condemn Phyro. As the "male" he was to be likely more aggressive and harder to control rather than Naiyra, who they knew was taking on the characteristics of her female. So they gave them two different punishments according to their tribes' wishes.
Phyro was sent to our Earth where he would live, forever remembering what he had lost, or to his tribe, what he'd done wrong.
Naiya, however, was to live the rest of that life cycle imprisoned until her next birth, where she would be rebuilt as a person with no memory of her past.

The story of course takes place when Phyro decides he must get back to his people and find his love. He's waited long enough and it's time to find her again.

One liner sum:
The novel is based on Phyro's journey to find his lost love, only to find that she has no memory of him and that time is running out for his entire race.
